Northern Tanzania Classic Safari – 7 Days

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport – Transfer to Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional safari guide who will assist with your luggage and provide a short briefing about your upcoming adventure. You will then enjoy a comfortable transfer to Arusha, a vibrant town nestled at the base of Mount Meru and known as the gateway to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit.

As you drive through local villages and lush landscapes, you’ll begin to experience the rhythm of Tanzania. Upon arrival at Arusha Planet Lodge, check in and unwind in the peaceful garden surroundings. Depending on your arrival time, you may relax by the pool or enjoy a quiet evening soaking in the atmosphere. Dinner will be served at the lodge, offering a mix of local and international cuisine.

Day 2: Arusha National Park – Walking Safari and Game Drive

After breakfast, depart for Arusha National Park, one of Tanzania’s most scenic and diverse parks. The day begins with a guided walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger. This is a unique opportunity to experience the African wilderness on foot—walking through open savannah and forest while observing giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and a variety of birdlife up close. Your guide will also share insights into tracks, plants, and smaller wildlife often missed during game drives.

Following the walking safari, continue with a game drive through the park. Explore its diverse ecosystems including lush forests, open grasslands, and the Momella Lakes, which often attract flamingos and other water birds. Keep an eye out for colobus monkeys swinging through the trees and enjoy spectacular views of Mount Meru. Return to Arusha in the late afternoon for relaxation and dinner at your lodge.

Day 3: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After an early breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park, a drive that takes you through Maasai villages and beautiful countryside. Upon arrival, begin your game drive in a park famous for its large elephant herds and iconic baobab trees, some of which are hundreds of years old.

Tarangire is especially rich in wildlife during the dry season, as animals gather along the Tarangire River. Expect to see elephants, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and predators such as lions and leopards. The park is also a paradise for bird lovers, with over 500 species recorded.

Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your afternoon game drive. Later in the day, exit the park and head to your lodge in Karatu for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Karatu – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, depart for the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. Your journey takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, offering breathtaking views of the highlands and the vast crater below. As you descend into the Serengeti plains, the landscape opens into endless grasslands stretching as far as the eye can see.

Enjoy game viewing en route as you make your way to your tented camp. The Serengeti is home to an incredible concentration of wildlife, including the Big Five. Depending on the season, you may witness part of the Great Migration, with thousands of wildebeests and zebras moving across the plains.

Arrive at your camp in the late afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the sounds of the wild. Dinner will be served under the stars, creating a truly authentic safari experience.

Day 5: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

Today is dedicated to a full-day game drive in the Serengeti. After an early breakfast, set out to explore different regions of the park. Your guide will tailor the day based on wildlife movements, ensuring the best chances of spotting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards.

You may witness dramatic wildlife interactions, from hunting scenes to large herds grazing peacefully. The Serengeti’s vastness ensures a constantly changing landscape and wildlife experience.

A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the bush, allowing you to maximize your time in the park. In the afternoon, continue exploring before returning to camp as the sun sets over the plains.

Optional activities such as a hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an additional cost for a truly unforgettable perspective of the Serengeti.

Day 6: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti as you begin your journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, continue spotting wildlife as you ascend into the cooler highlands.

Upon arrival at the Ngorongoro Crater, descend 600 meters into this UNESCO World Heritage Site for a half-day game drive. The crater is one of the most wildlife-dense areas in Africa, offering excellent chances to see the Big Five, including the rare black rhino.

The crater floor features a mix of grasslands, forests, and a soda lake that attracts flamingos and other birdlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch near a hippo pool before continuing your exploration.

In the late afternoon, ascend the crater and drive to your lodge in Karatu for dinner and

relaxation.

Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park – Departure

After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive. This park is known for its lush groundwater forest, diverse birdlife, and tree-climbing lions. As you explore, you may encounter elephants, baboons, hippos, and flamingos along the lake shore.

Enjoy a scenic game drive through the park, taking in its varied landscapes and rich biodiversity. Afterward, begin your journey back to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may stop for lunch or a short break along the way.

You will arrive at the airport in time for your departure flight, marking the end of your unforgettable Tanzanian safari.
